Cosmetics are a broad category of products intended the alter or enhance a person's appearance, usually for the sake of appearing more beautiful or handsome.
While the term makeup is often used interchangeably with cosmetics, makeup is a subset of products intended for use one the face. In short, all makeup products are cosmetics, but not all cosmetics are makeup.
In real life, the term "cosmetics" includes makeup, but also includes hair gels, hair dyes, and bronzers.
