Stylecards № 7

The number 7 is often considered lucky, and I feel incredibly lucky every time we publish a new issue of Stylecards. As we get ready to publish an issue, the final few weeks are stressful, so when it finally goes to the virtual press, we feel lucky that everything hopefully went to plan and that another issue will soon hit the readers’ inventories.

In this issue, Sheristrawberri adds another installment to her series that started with a look at dating in Second Life, printed in Stylecards № 5, and weddings, which can be found in Stylecards № 6. In this issue, she looks at the next logical step; pregnancy in Second Life. It’s a thriving industry in the virtual world and Sheri interviewed some of the major figures to get more information about how it works in-world.

We were certainly lucky to be able to work with Luna Chelsea for the Designer Showcase. She’s been making fascinating designs for a long time and making them for a wide range of bodies, she has something for almost everyone.

The recent introduction of the Avatar Welcome Pack, tucked away in the Library folder of every resident, has given us some interesting items to play with, and prompted a few discussions at Stylecards. Sheri investigated and writes about how it came to be, while I tried out all the avatars and looks before writing about them. It’s a good idea and we hope to see more from the AWP in the future.

With the cooler weather soon to be upon us, thoughts turn to fall harvests and in this issue we welcome new writer Hazel Nightwish who fills us in on the Digital Farming System, better known as DFS. Hazel’s enthusiasm really comes through and makes us want to learn more. I may have to get some potted plants to make our offices look more lively.

Autumn is also a time of mystery, so it’s a fitting time for some investigations. Sheristrawberri has given us two articles to pique the interests of mystery lovers and fans of real crime media. First, in “Mysteries to be Solved”, she looks at detective role-play in Second Life with a creator who develops mysteries so people can channel their inner Sherlock. She also looks at No Stone Unturned, an actual detective agency in-world that investigates cases of suspected infidelity and missing persons in Second Life. Let them do the sleuthing for you.

For readers wishing to travel, we present a couple of exciting places to visit. First up is Backdrop City, or as I like to call it, “the photographer’s best friend.” While I love roaming the grid searching for just the right spot to take some photos, sometimes I’m on a deadline and need to find something quick. Backdrop City has rescued me in this way many times.

Scouting locations on a recent journey, I came across Mall Paradise and thought it was wonderful. Whether you want to get an Orange Julius, do some Jazzercise, or go bowling, Mall Paradise is worth visiting and exploring.
